Save over $1500 in property taxes by living in Cobb County vs. living in Atlanta!
In June, the Atlanta City Council passed a bill that will increase the property tax rate for general operations from 7.12 mills to 10.12 mills. Atlanta is one of the few big cities nationwide to raise property taxes this year. The mayor and city council site a shortage of police and fire fighters as the main reason to increase taxes. They want to bring more police officers & fire fighters back to work.
Cobb County will not be raising property taxes this year. Avoid overpaying your property taxes by buying a home at Circle 75, Townhomes in Atlanta, but in unincorporated Cobb County. Cobb County Commissioner, Sam Olens, stated that property taxes will “absolutely not” be raised about the current 9.60 mills. That means for every $1,000 in taxable property, you pay $9.60 annually.
When we plugged in the numbers to an on-line property tax calculator, for a $250,000 home, you would pay $2,939 annually in taxes in Unincorporated Cobb County. For a home the same amount in the City of Atlanta in Dekalb County, you would pay $4,508 in taxes. In Fulton County, you would pay $4,327. As you can see, Cobb County residences are saving money.
